Narita Airport bumps up airport charges by 500 yen Narita International Airport has announced that it will tack on 500 yen to current airport charges for passengers from next month. The 500-yen Passenger Security Service Charge will be added to the ongoing Passenger Service Facility Charge (2,040 yen for adults) from Nov. 16, for departing and transit passengers at the time of ticketing. Costs on baggage checks and hijacking prevention measures are expected to reach about 6 billion yen this fiscal year, and the new charge will help pay to "maintain the security level" at the airport, officials said. Meanwhile, the landing fee for airlines at the airport will be reduced from Nov. 1, with a 125 yen discount per ton due to the sluggish air traffic resulting from the global recession and the swine flu epidemic.
